My large family
I live in a large family. There are eight members in it. They are my father, my mother, my grand-father, my grand-mother, myself, my brother and my two sisters.
The name of my father is Shri Narottam Nayak. He is a farmer. He works in the field. My mother lives inside the house. She cooks food for us. She looks after the household. The names of my two sisters are Jhilli and Milli. They help my mother in her household work. My brother is youner than I. His name is Shri Nabe Kishore Nayak. He reads in Class. VII in our Village M. E. School. I am a student of Class X and I read in the M. S. Academy, Tirtol.
The house where we live is made of mud and wattle. The whole structure is supported by the wooden pillars. There are a lot of rooms in my house. These are two sleeping-rooms, one store-room one study, one drawing-room and a kitchen. Outside the rooms there is a cow-shed and a shed for the thrashing horse. There is a very spacious courtyard in my house area.
My father earns about four thousand rupees a year from his field. We manage somehow with this small income. My mother is a very careful lady. She takes much care so that no unnecessary wastage is possible in our family. We get milk from our cows. From our garden we get fruits and vegetables.
Generally, we eat cooked food like rice, dal, curry, fry, toast, roast, milk and tea. My mother likes to eat rice water. Our Tiffin include beaten rice, fried rice, wheat bread, cakes and milk-products. None in my family has taken to any kind of narcotic except my grand father who under necessity takes a little opium everyday in the evening.
Our clothing are no better than the common countryside clothing of Orissa. My father and grand-father wear cotton clothes. My mother and grand-mother wear cotton sarees. I put on a half pant and a shirt. My brother also puts on as I do. My sisters put on frocks and pants.
The fountain of affection is ever flown in our family. We have pure love and affection for one another. My mother serves my grand-father and grand mother with full devotion of heart. My grand-father and grand mother are very affectionate people. There is complete accord between my father and mother and among all of us. My father works day and night to maintain our family. He never does anything without consulting my mother, grand mother and grand father. We, the children, are very serviceable to all in my family. We like one another and help one another. My family is no doubt a happy family.

Describing my family
My full name is Ann Smith and I want to tell you a few words about my family. It’s not very big, just a typical one: father, mother and my younger brother and me. I have also got two pets: a puppy and a parrot. If only you could imagine how funny they are!
My mother
My mother is 42. She is a good-looking woman with brown hair and grey eyes. I think she looks her best. She works as an interpreter in a large foreign company. Sometimes she has to go abroad and we all miss her a lot, but when she is back everybody is in seventh heaven. It’s not easy to keep the house in order without my mom. Although she is very hard-working and committed person she never puts her family aside. She is a kind and clever woman.
My father
My father is 45. He is a manager. He is well-read and very interesting to talk to. I like spending long winter evenings discussing different up-to-date problems with him. He is also handy with many things. It’s not a problem for him to fix something in the house. In his spare time he teaches me to drive a car.
My brother
Regarding my brother, I may say that he is my best friend. He is three years younger, so we have a lot in common. He is a pupil at a secondary school. He can be described as a sociable and witty person. He is also friendly. I can’t ever remember arguing with him. We both play tennis three times a week, so we spend much time together.

All in all, I have a very united family. We always help each other. Besides, we’ve got a lot of relatives and we all appreciate getting together on various occasions.

My youngest is eleven. She is a schoolgirl. She wants to become an actress but she is not sure yet.

Firstly family is the first school a baby enters in this merciless and cruel world. A newborn child for the first time hears his or her first language, learns to understand and speak it. Relatives help us to take the first small steps. We acquire skills necessary for our live. Also family is responsible for quick and proper physical and mental development of a child. It’s a fact, that kids who have grown up , develop slower and often have problems at every turn and twist of their future life.

Our family is not large. We are a family of four: my father, my mother, my younger brother and I.
My name is Olga. I am seventeen. I am a school leaver. My younger brother is ten. He is a pupil of the fifth form. He looks like our father. He has brown eyes, short straight hair. He is tall and thin. As for me everybody says I look like my mother. I have the same blue eyes, a snub nose, fair curly hair. I am not tall and 1 am not thin. I am an ordinary girl of 17.
Our family lives in Moscow. We have a nice three-roomed flat on the fourth floor of a multistoried building. We have all modern conveniences: running hot and cold water, telephone, central heating, rubbish chute. We have no gas range. All the flats in our house are provided with electric cookers. We are satisfied with our flat where we moved only a year ago.
My mother is about 40. She looks pretty well We all love dearly our Mum, and are always ready to help her about the house. We try to share our duties. Returning home after classes I usually do the shopping. 1 drop in at the bakery and at the dairy.
My younger brother also has his duties about the house. He helps mother to set the table and wash the dishes. He usually sweeps the floor and dusts the furniture. On Saturdays Dad joins us in our work about the house. He likes to make or repair something. He also likes to clean the flat with a vacuum-cleaner. I suppose it"s his little hobby But speaking seriously his real hobby is taking photos. He can do it perfectly well. We have several family albums with the pictures taken by him.
My father is an engineer in computers. He is considered to be an experienced engineer. We are very proud of him but there is one unpleasant thing with this: he is always busy and very often he works overtime.
My mother is an economist. The firm she works in deals with trading. They have business in different towns of Russia. She is to go on business trips from time to time.
We have a little summer house and a lovely garden near it not far from Moscow. The nature is very beautiful there. There is a lake there. My grandparents like to live there in summer.
They don"t work now. They are on pension. They live in an industrial district of the city where the air is rather polluted. That"s why they are always looking forward to going to our summer house. My Granny is fond of gardening and my Grandpa likes to go fishing.
Our family is friendly. 1 like them all.

У моего младшего брата также есть свои домашние обязанности. Он помогает маме накрывать на стол и мыть посуду. Он обычно моет пол, вытирает пыль с мебели. По субботам папа присоединяется к нашим домашним хлопотам. Он любит мастерить или ремонтировать что-либо. Ему также нравится пылесосить. Я даже думаю, что это его хобби.
